Day 4 - Emotional day
Wednesday, March 28, 2012
Wana Wa Mola just started, in January 2012, a second location for older boys that might not finish school as they are too old to go back and complete the grades but instead will do vocational training into a caterer or something like that so they will be able to find employment. We met the music teacher and the day time Christian leader of the home. They took us around and showed us the place. It was small but nice. They need a well right now. We ran this one different than all the rest as everyone spoke and understood English very well. They had 6 boys total at one time earlier this year. 2 were in high school so were gone for the day. Two had left the home to pursue a career in music back in Tanzinia where one of the boys came from. The two boys that were there during the day were twin brothers - Francis and Peter. We did a worship session where they sang and played guitar for us - they needed a new guitar - they had like a $30 type guitar that would buy from Walmart and it was difficult to play with. Then we each took a page of the Gospel story and read it out loud and then spoke about it. We handed out the name tags and talked about those and how much power we have with the Holy Spirit. Then we all shared things we were struggling with. The boys indicated that they struggled with music and listening to rappers that were not healthy at least as much as they were listening to it. Daniel and Paul shared how they struggled with that too and how they replaced it with good Christian rap. The boys also shared about how hard it was not to lie to try to get food or other things they needed given their past life. We talked about either you trusted God or you trusted yourself. God has the power and we do not, that it was difficult to trust God at first to cover your needs, but once you do it a few times you will see how He comes through and then it is easier and easier to trust Him in the future.
I had shared how my biggest struggle was getting ahead of God. They wanted to know more details about that. Of course I broke down crying as they asked me my story of Kenya. So embarrassing. Being sick and not sleeping enough has brought back my constant tears over Kenya. Everything I see brings me to tears - poverty, despair, very little hope. It is very hard to look at when you’re not fully rested and fully connected to God. That plus the stress of the house decision does not make it any easier and worrying that I am getting ahead of God in that.
The Christian leader of the home asked how we could encourage the boys from keeping up on their dreams and working hard. After hearing Rashid's story of not being able to complete high school yet still moving onward with his life in great ways, it was a great chance for him to share his story of encouragement with the boys. Anyway, we all shared and then I got asked to close in prayer. We wished them the best of luck in all they did and to not get ahead of God.
The boys here really really love music. They want to be recording artists. TOB - Twins of Brothers. Peter and Francis. Would love to hook Jason M. up with the boys
Hopefully Paul can get them some good Christian music that they would like.
Then we went to Mtwapa to try to find the building we were looking at to show Paul but we couldn't find it. Then we headed to Yul's for another veggie burger and WIFI finally. Rashid exchanged money for us.
Then we headed back out to the property to view it with Allan. Paul came with us to see too. Allan indicated it was in a very good area and it was a very good price. That was good news. We got a lot of pictures of the building and we also had a contractor meet us out there to take a look at the building to determine a strict price on what it will cost to finish and renovate any areas that need renovation and draw up some plans for that. We should have those plans in a few days.
Alan indicated he felt the property alone would be worth over 8 million shillings and then to get a 2 story facility on top of that for 13 schillings was a very very good deal. He also indicated if we wanted to divide the plot into 2 we could easly sell the place I would put a playgound for 8 million shillings alone if that is what we needed to do in the future for any reason. Also also thought the renovations would be approximately 3 million schillings which is what the contractor told Vicky and Hellen on their description of the building. Alan thought it was a very good deal and in a great neighborhood. It is within 5 minutes of walking to the beach for the children and adults as well.
As we walked through this building the second time, God laid on my heart - babies. This is a place for babies. Though I love working with school aged children, my heart was leaning toward babies upon walking through the property. Later in the day, we finally were able to get a moment to talk with Bobby. We were just catching him up on what we had been doing and we made very brief mention of the building right as we were about the leave. Then he tells us a story of a mission group that came not too long ago and they asked him what his next step was and out of know where his mouth said "an orphanage". He indicated that Lisa would love to open up a baby only orphanage to adopt out as many of them as possible. That was a God moment. That is exactly what we want to do with this building. A lawyer and psychologist and I want to use it to facility adoptions in Mombasa so Africans do not have to travel to Nairobi to adopt a baby. This would be the only adopting Children's Home in Mombasa. When Bobby said that it was chilling.
We came home and ran with Penninah for an hour or so and finally found our way to the beach - thank you Penninah and had enjoyable time talking and running with her. She is an amazing woman who has been through so so much and loves God very much and it shows. She is amazing teacher at a great school here in Nyali.
